Let's Talk!

Let’s Talk! Online is a creative global dialogue think-tank with the intention of enhancing social dialogue to enable all people to benefit from globalisation. The Let's Talk! forum serves a dual purpose:

  1. To develop real-life applicable solutions that help us deal effectively with some of the key challenges of the 21st century, such as the future of work, which includes labour market conditions, education and climate change,
  2. and to build trustful relationships between key actors in society, thereby making it more resilient in meeting known and unknown challenges.

The forum addresses the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aims to make a difference.

The forum is a process-oriented workshop spread out over four weeks. An interactive process is facilitated along a structured timeline featuring real dialogue and exchange between the participants themselves at the forum’s core. This combination removes barriers, allowing free and out-of-the-box thinking where everyone is given the floor to speak freely in open-minded dialogues. In order to facilitate lasting relationships and build trust, participants will work not only on a regional level but also in country groups, aiming at inspiring tangible initiatives that can be carried out jointly after the forum. 

The Let’s Talk! Online 2020: The Africa Chapter is organised in partnership between the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) and the Global Deal. The organising partners share the common view of Let´s Talk! as an important initiative to share the knowledge and experience of the positive impact of social dialogue on the prosperities of labour markets and society as a whole.

SOCIAL DIALOGUE

Social dialogue, as defined by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), includes all types of negotiation, consultation or simply exchange of information between, or among, representatives of governments, employers and workers, on issues of common interest relating to economic and social policy. Social dialogue takes on many different forms. 

Social dialogue in the Let’s Talk setting will follow a facilitated process that allows for change-making individuals from business, trade unions, government and non-governmental organisations to create tangible solutions for all segments of society.

Let's Talk! Goes Digital

The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified many of the already prevalent global sustainability challenges. The Let's Talk! Online forum will focus on gathering representatives from businesses, trade unions, governments and civil society to use social dialogue as a tool to discuss these challenges and find solutions.

By having three intense meetings, spread out across two weeks, the digital forum is able to build trustful relationships between parties while guiding a initiative-driven process resulting in solutions to key societal challenges.

The forum begins with relationship-building workshops that allow the participants to familiarise themselves with the process and each other. Next, the participants identify challenges and build solutions through three process-driven meetings. The forum concludes with the packaging and presentation of the initiatives.

The forum dates:

  • Friday, 27th November 2020: 10:00 - 12:00 CET
  • Tuesday, 1st December 2020: 10:00 - 12:00 CET
  • Monday, 7th December 2020: 10:00 - 12:00 CET

Do you want to be part of creating solutions for a better society?

During the forum, we will gather change-making individuals from businesses, trade unions, governmental and non-governmental organisations, independent experts and influencers to create tangible and lasting positive impacts for all segments of society through social dialogues. The forum will take  place online with the majority of the participants coming from African countries.

Participants will be determined through an expression of interest and selection process built on the idea of bringing together a balanced group of diverse individuals driven by openness and commitment to contribute to improved relations through social dialogue and cooperation. Express your interest in the forum by applying below!
